Birtenshaw College students have MORE fun!
In the lead up to the winter break 2016, the students of Birtenshaw College used their creativity to re-interpret the classic musical ‘Oliver!’ Never before have students had more fun (get it? never before has a boy wanted more!)
Students created the props for the show – everything from the gloomy, atmospheric background of Victorian London to the delicious sausages that the orphans imagined they were being served instead of gruel. The script had some modern twists, such as the EastEnders theme tune, and when Oliver was ejected from the workhouse everyone told him to “do one!”
There was fantastic acting from students, interwoven with pre-recorded excerpts from the story which students had prepared in Birtenshaw College’s new radio studio. And of course the production ended with a rousing rendition of ‘Consider Yourself’ from all the cast and the audience. Afterwards everyone gathered for some “food, glorious food” prepared by students in Birtenshaw’s Community Café.
We ‘consider ourselves’ very lucky indeed to have such a talented group at Birtenshaw College!
