Birtenshaw School, Bolton excel at School Boccia Games
School Games Boccia
On Wednesday 30 October 2019, pupils from Birtenshaw School Bolton competed in the School Games Boccia Tournament; in association with Bolton Wanderers Football Club, held at Bolton Arena. Pupils arrived at the Arena with smiles on their faces wearing the new Birtenshaw School, Bolton P.E Kit. This was provided with funding from ‘Hits Radio Manchester Cash for Kids’ and made it possible to provide a sports kit for every pupil.
This was Birtenshaw School, Bolton’s first ever Boccia team and tournament and pupils competed against nine other more experienced teams. It was brilliant to see pupils from all schools cheering and motivating each other during the day which created a really positive atmosphere. Pupils had an outstanding start to the day, it was clear that all the hard work and practice in their Physical Education lessons in school before the tournament had paid off with an emphatic 8 – 0 win!
The sports team could see the confidence and joy in the pupils and it was a privilege to be a part of the tournament.
The whole tournament was very competitive with the team producing some brilliant Boccia and only just missing out on the finals. Team member Jack Goddard’s excellent performance was rewarded by being asked to play against the Bolton Wanderers Football Club captain Jason Lowe. Well done Jack!
