We’re now half way through the month and Birtenshaw CEO David Reid has likened himself to the old priest from Father Ted!
To mark Birtenshaw’s diamond anniversary year, David decided to raise awareness and funds for the great work Birtenshaw does by doing sponsored Dry January or ‘dryuary’.
He said: “I am now half way through but have two weekends still to conquer. I like a wee drink every now and again but at the minute I feel like the old priest on Father Ted who says, Drink, Drink, Drink all the time! I am trying to divert my attention, particularly at the weekend. I have started playing tennis and have even signed up for one on one tuition!
David said after ditching the drink he started to notice some weight loss in the first week – but admits he is now snacking more!
“During the week it’s fine – but as the weekend draws nearer I start to think about the weekend and how I’m going to tackle it as I usually have a drink or two on a Friday or Saturday night. There are plenty of times when I wouldn’t drink at all, but knowing that I can’t is making me think about it more! I never noticed how many times people ask you if you’d like another drink while you’re in restaurants.”
So far David has raised £876 towards his £1,000 target.
Before David’s challenge began, he said: “It will be a challenge for me, but it’s nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by disabled young people, who are supported by Birtenshaw every day. They inspire me. A simple smile can light up my day. It doesn’t seem to matter what their condition or disability is, they just get on with life.”
