Gold Standard achieved by Birtenshaw College
The Gold Standard
Birtenshaw College has achieved Fair Train’s Work Experience Quality Standard at Gold Level.
One of the college’s main focuses over the last 18 months has been to increase the number of local employers able to offer meaningful work experience opportunities to learners with SEND so that their chances of achieving voluntary or paid employment after they leave college are increased. Finding such placements is not easy due to the barriers that some learners face, however, having worked with a variety of agencies, the college has so far secured placements with 18 employers thus enabling learners to gain real work skills in sectors such as business administration, animal care, catering and hospitality, building maintenance and retail.
The Fair Train assessment process looked at the processes the college has in place to ensure placements are safe and suitable and the impact on outcomes for learners.
Feedback received stated that ‘the self-assessment and supporting evidence you provided were comprehensive, impressive and very thorough, and the procedures you have in place ensure that all your work placements operate at a high standard. We were particularly impressed with the awareness raising training that you offer to employers, the consistency achieved by having LSAs accompanying your learners, and your commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for all your learners’.
Thank you to all our employers for providing invaluable opportunities for learners.
