Last week each class at Birtenshaw School took part in a yoga session, led by yoga instructor Gill.
Although yoga originated some 5,000 years ago it has continually adapted to the variety of abilities and needs for everyone to enjoy it today, making it a perfect addition to the schools exciting extra-curricular activities. Focusing on strength, flexibility and breathing through this form of exercise is said to boost both physical and mental wellbeing.
During the lessons pupils performed a variety of yoga positions and breathing techniques using materials and bubbles. Building on these sessions throughout the term will promote a wide range of positive impacts. These include enhanced flexibility, refined balance and coordination, increased focus and concentration, and a build in self-esteem and confidence.
It was really exciting trying out a new activity and everyone really enjoyed being involved.
