On Friday 13th November our care staff at Birtenshaw had a fantastic evening at the North West Care Awards 2015. The purpose of the awards are to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work across the care sector.
This year Birtenshaw saw two out of our three shortlisted nominees receive the prestigious awards within their categories. At Birtenshaw we are delighted to see that their commitment, innovation and truly inspiring work has been recognised.
Karen Shepherd a Registered Children’s Home Manager at Birtenshaw received the 2015 ‘Registered Care Home Manager Award.’ Receiving an Outstanding from Ofsted earlier this year Karen has proven time and again that she will go above and beyond for our young people to have the most enriching lives as possible, which was reflected in the judge’s decision. Karen was described as being:
“passionate about providing personal centred care with an excellent demonstration of person centred care approach. The judges were impressed by Karen’s technical knowledge and being an excellent role model for her staff”

Paul Bridge a Support Worker within Karen’s team received ‘The Care Home Worker Award’ where he was recognised for his outstanding commitment to providing quality and individualised care. His passion and enthusiasm is infectious, Paul is an integral member of the team, we couldn’t be prouder of his achievements.
Caralee Southern was nominated for one of the biggest and most competitive categories within the Care Awards, ‘The Putting People First Award’ where nominees are to demonstrate their innovative approach to empowering people. Although in the finals she did not receive the award we couldn’t be happier with her hard work and dedication to improving the lives of the young people in our care. She is a role model for her team and her continued enthusiasm is truly appreciated.
Now that the Care Awards have come to an end we will continue to strive for excellence and provide the best facilities and services possible for our young people.
