Success for Birtenshaw School, Bolton at TES School Awards 2018!
Birtenshaw School Bolton is the winner of the TES School Awards 2018 in the category of Healthy School of the Year.
The awards, celebrating their tenth year, recognise outstanding contributions made by education teams and individuals to help students around the country to succeed, both inside and outside the classroom.
Birtenshaw School, Bolton has been shortlisted four years in a row at the National TES School Awards in three different categories, which is a great achievement in itself. This year, after overcoming strong opposition the school was delighted to receive the prestigious TES Healthy School of The Year from host Al Murray at the awards ceremony which took place on the evening of Friday 22 June 2018 in the Great Room at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
“The school has been recognised for supporting children with special education needs and disability and provided ‘clear evidence of the value of adopting a healthy food and physical activity programme or wellbeing culture for pupils and staff” – TES 2018
The lead judge said: ‘Birtenshaw impressed all the judges with its whole-child approach to health, incorporating eating, exercise and mental health. The staff showed amazing creativity, ambition and commitment in planning and implementing healthy choices for the children in the school, and led by example with 56 members of staff completing a 10km fun run to raise awareness of health and funds for the school. A worthy winner in a very strong field.’
