I have worked in social work/social care for almost 30 years. As a qualified paediatric social worker and psychologist I have worked mainly in children’s services in the public, private and voluntary and community sectors in front line through to senior management roles. I have always been passionate about quality children’s services and in particular services that transform the lives of children with special education needs and disability.
I became Chief Executive at The Birtenshaw Group in July 2006. At the time the company was in a poor state financially and by reputation. I am delighted that since then we have been able to reposition the company and develop and diversify our services so that we now support more young people than ever, in a wider range of services, all of which are focused on the individual achieving their potential and living a fulfilling and rewarding life as independently as possible.
The Birtenshaw Group is now a successful, multi-award winning provider of specialist autism friendly services. I am proud of what we have achieved to date and our plans for future growth, all of which is only possible with our dedicated and competent workforce, each one of whom will always go above and beyond the call of duty!

I have worked in children’s services for 31 years. As a qualified teacher, I enjoyed a successful 20 year career in challenging mainstream schools finishing as a senior pastoral deputy with a track record of sustained school improvement in 2010. I then held senior management roles in three national organisations providing specialist care and education services to children and young people with Special Needs and Disability.
I joined The Birtenshaw Group in 2013 as Director of Education, based in the school in Bolton. Since then my role has developed and I now have strategic and operational oversight of all of the organisation’s education and care services across children’s and adults’ services.
I am proud to be part of The Birtenshaw Group Senior Executive Team, a role that provides me with an opportunity to lead a forward thinking and visionary team and develop services for disabled people which are truly person-centred and which lead to demonstrable positive outcomes.

I have worked in the charitable / not for profit sector for the last 23 years, I first joined The Birtenshaw Group in 2010. My key responsibility is leading and managing an effective finance function by maintaining strong financial management and effective financial controls.
I have responsibility for resources and asset base, these being money, people, property and information technology. These need to be managed to ensure the priorities of The Birtenshaw Group are appropriately resourced. I have played a lead role in The Birtenshaw Group new school building projects.

I have previous personal experience of end of life care within a family environment and this has given me an invaluable insight into social care from a family perspective.
I have been employed by The Birtenshaw Group for over ten years, starting my career as a support worker before receiving a number of promotions, including Registered Manager to, most recently, Assistant Director: Care Services. I have completed this role for almost two years, overseeing Children and Adult Care Services.
The Birtenshaw Group has enabled me to develop and expand my knowledge, passion and understanding regarding residential care. This has led to my ability to embed empathic and positive leadership strategies to ensure that the young people thrive under the ethos of ‘ordinary life principles’.

I have been working for The Birtenshaw Group as Assistant Director – Education Services, since August 2018. My previous 25 years in education allowed me to gain a wide variety of experiences across a range of educational settings including Mainstream and Special Schools. My decision to focus and specialise within Special Education was primarily driven by my initial years as a parent of a disabled child; this had, and continues to have, the biggest and most significant impact on myself as an educator; my empathy and understanding towards other parents of disabled children and young people has strengthened ever since. Once in Special Education I never looked back and have since moved from being a teacher through a variety of leadership roles to my current role as Assistant Director –Education Services at The Birtenshaw Group. I have worked in Special Education across Bury and Bolton and have met many parents and other professionals who work with the children, young people and adults at The Birtenshaw Group. My role at The Birtenshaw Group continues to be an exciting challenge where I feel I am be able to share and develop the skills that I have built so far within the field of SEN. It is an opportunity to work alongside many other like-minded and passionate people and to shape the future and provision for all the amazing children and young people at The Birtenshaw Group.

Prior to joining The Birtenshaw Group in 2016 as a Human Resources Advisor, I enjoyed various Senior Management roles within the Retail Industry. I gained vast experience in all aspects of people management and employee relations including employee development, recruitment, policies and procedures, to mention but a few.
Working for The Birtenshaw Group has allowed me to carry on working with people and transfer my skills I have gained as a manager. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to such an amazing organisation and look forward to being part of The Birtenshaw Group’s exciting and rewarding future.
I continue to pursue personal career development opportunities and most recently completed a Level 5 Diploma in Human Resources Management.

Having joined The Birtenshaw Group in November 2017, I have worked across all the estates. Working with multiple third party stakeholders on the structural completion of Birtenshaw Merseyside and then working closely with education leaders to establish and grow the school. More recently having returned to Head Office in Bolton I have completed a number of reviews to ensure the fleet and estates infrastructure is prepared for continued growth and development of The Birtenshaw Group.

I have worked in Adult Sector since 2007, and started at Birtenshaw in 2018 as the Registered Manager of the Adult Supported Tenancies. In Dec 2018 I was promoted to Head of Service – Adult Services responsible for Supported Tenancies and Enrichment.

I have been at The Birtenshaw Group since September 2013 where I started as a class teacher, progressing to Deputy Head of Birtenshaw School, Bolton in 2016 and in my current post as Head of Service (Head Teacher) since June 2017.
I oversee all of the strategic and operational functions of the school as well as leading Birtenshaw’s vision of ‘Transforming Lives’ through everything that we do. I am extremely lucky to manage a team of exceptional class teachers who plan, deliver creative and inspirational lessons each and every day. Each time I step into a classroom I am surrounded by the laughter, passion and care between adults and children and I feel extraordinarily privileged to be part of this organisation.
I am committed to providing a quality and engaging curriculum for pupils with a focus on developing independence and preparing pupils for adulthood. Many pupils at Birtenshaw School, Bolton have experienced multiple exclusions and have a negative outlook on education and what learning can look like. My role allows me to promote innovation and positive risk taking in a way that offers each child a completely person centred experience in school, to re-build their trust in education and to ensure that when they leave, they have the best possible chance to lead a fulfilling adult life.

I have had nearly 30 years leadership and management experience in mainstream and special school settings and as a Programme Co-ordinator for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
I consider myself to be community-facing and firmly believe that schools and colleges cannot improve educational engagement alone; they must be outward facing and develop sustainable partnerships and networks if they hope to make a real difference to aspiration, achievement and lifelong learning for all members of the community.
I believe that The Birtenshaw Group is such an organisation and I am proud to be part of the team. As a mother of a young person on the autistic spectrum, I am passionate about ensuring that learners at Birtenshaw College are supported to have a voice and to be fully involved in the choices they make as they prepare for adulthood.

Starting with Birtenshaw in 2002, I was a dinner lady and an evening support worker. Birtenshaw has supported me massively to develop my career. I have undergone continuous training and skills development allowing me to progress to the position of Registered Manager at Barley Brook Meadow Children’s Home, enabling me to have a greater impact in brightening the lives of the young people we support.
After a further development into the role of Deputy Services Manager, where I supported the Service Managers in overseeing all the Children’s Homes while continuing to manage Barley Brook Meadow Children’s Home. In early 2018 I have been promoted to Head of Service Children’s Care.
