Birtenshaw School Merseyside is a non-maintained special school for young people aged 3 to 19 years old with Special Education Needs and/or Disability. Our vision is to “Transform Lives” by ensuring that pupils receive the same learning and social opportunities as other children; which we achieve by providing facilities and a creative curriculum tailored to meet their needs.
Birtenshaw College provides specialist further education for young people aged between 16 and 25 with physical disability, including complex health needs and / or learning disability, including Autism Spectrum Conditions.
The College was established in 2014 in response to the lack of local further education opportunities for young adults with a disability who are over the age of 19 and have difficulty in accessing mainstream college courses because of the level of support they need.
Birtenshaw Children’s Care Services are provided for children with a physical disability, complex health needs and a learning disability including Autism Spectrum Conditions.
Birtenshaw Adult Care Services are provided for young adults from the age of 18 through our two main areas of Adult Supported Tenancies and the Enrichment Service. They are available to young adults who have a physical disability, including complex health needs and / or a learning disability, including Autism Spectrum Conditions.
Here at Birtenshaw we believe that every young person has the right and ability to communicate. We follow the Means, Reasons & Opportunities model (Money & Thurman, 1994).
Birtenshaw has a fleet of vehicles ranging from standard cars, people carriers, small mini-buses and larger mini-buses with wheel chair facilities.
